Are we willing and ready to belong to God?

Delving deep into our Scripture passages today, as well as the Gospel of Matthew, we are secured in our desire to know God most intimately.

We are encouraged to seek understanding, to strive for forgiveness when necessary, and to reconcile with God most definitely, and with one another when at all possible.

Mathew’s Gospel is most compelling because it draws us into a deeper knowledge of God, while, in doing so, developing in us our love for the Father.

In knowing the Father, we also know the Son and the Holy Spirit, and in knowing the fullness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we know God in His whole being.

Why is it important to come to know our Father in heaven? We come to know Him because of our intrigue with His majesty, creation, and overall magnificence.

We come to know Him because of His Divine Mercy and to identify more with how Jesus knew His Father in heaven. Remember when Jesus taught the disciples how to pray, He prayed “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.”

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, the father was filled with joy and mercy at seeing his son coming home from a distance. How beautiful is that?

We are all called to seek God as Father, because when we find Him, we are at peace and are the most content. To know God most intimately means we must also know ourselves as God knows us. Today’s Gospel reminds us of Psalm 139, “You probe me, and You know me. “Like Adam and Eve when they ran to hide from God in shame, we realize that in all actuality, it is not possible to hide from God. He knows us best in our sin and in our struggle toward holiness. God, as judge, knows each and every one of us. He knows our intentions, shortcomings, fears, and our desires, whether good or bad. He knows, He loves, yet will not condemn us, though He is justified in doing so.

The Father’s love calls us to obedience and cooperation with God. To cooperate with God means we do so willingly. Only the willing receive the blessings bestowed by God, because to be in the will of God means everything.

We call on God as Father because He is Abba, Daddy. We call on the Father as Adonai or El Shaddai, because He is God Almighty, the mighty one, and the immortal one. Have mercy on us and the whole world.

¿Estamos dispuestos y preparados para pertenecer a Dios?

Al profundizar en los pasajes de las Escrituras de hoy, así como en el Evangelio de Mateo, afianzamos nuestro deseo de conocer a Dios más íntimamente.

Se nos anima a buscar la comprensión, a procurar el perdón cuando sea necesario y a reconciliarnos definitivamente con Dios y, siempre que sea posible, los unos con los otros.

El Evangelio de Mateo resulta sumamente cautivador porque nos conduce a un conocimiento más profundo de Dios, al tiempo que fomenta en nosotros el amor hacia el Padre.

Al conocer al Padre, conocemos también al Hijo y al Espíritu Santo; y al conocer la plenitud del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, conocemos a Dios en todo su ser.

¿Por qué es importante llegar a conocer a nuestro Padre celestial? Llegamos a conocerlo movidos por el asombro ante su majestad, su creación y su magnificencia en general.

Llegamos a conocerlo gracias a su Divina Misericordia y para identificarnos más con la forma en que Jesús conocía a su Padre celestial.

Recordemos que, cuando Jesús enseñó a los discípulos a orar, lo hizo diciendo: «Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo, santificado sea tu nombre».

En la parábola del hijo pródigo, el padre se llenó de alegría y misericordia al ver a su hijo regresar a casa desde lejos. ¡Qué hermoso es eso!

Todos estamos llamados a buscar a Dios como Padre, pues al encontrarlo hallamos paz y plena satisfacción. Conocer a Dios íntimamente implica también conocernos a nosotros mismos tal como Dios nos conoce. El Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda el Salmo 139: «Tú me sondeas y me conoces». Al igual que Adán y Eva, que corrieron a esconderse de Dios por vergüenza, comprendemos que, en realidad, es imposible ocultarse de Él. Él nos conoce profundamente, tanto en nuestro pecado como en nuestra lucha por alcanzar la santidad.

Dios, como juez, conoce a cada uno de nosotros. Conoce nuestras intenciones, nuestras debilidades, nuestros temores y nuestros deseos, ya sean buenos o malos. Él nos conoce y nos ama; no nos condenará, aunque tendría justificación para hacerlo.

El amor del Padre nos llama a la obediencia y a la cooperación con Dios. Cooperar con Dios significa hacerlo de buena voluntad. Solo aquellos que están dispuestos reciben las bendiciones que Dios otorga, porque estar en la voluntad de Dios lo es todo.

Invocamos a Dios como Padre porque Él es *Abba*, Papá. Invocamos al Padre como *Adonai* o *El Shaddai*, porque Él es Dios Todopoderoso, el Poderoso y el Inmortal. Ten misericordia de nosotros y del mundo entero.
