2nd Sunday of Easter

Today is the Second Sunday of Easter also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. This day we remember that God’s mercy is for all people not just some. We should have faith, hope and joy because we have with us the risen Jesus that reminds us that believing in Him brings new life. The early Christians lived together, shared what they had and cared for those in need. Their lives were filled with prayers, worship, and love for one another. Faith can change the way we live each day. We are asked this week to trust and not be a doubting Thomas.

We need to put our trust in God even when He takes his time to give us what we are asking for. Sometimes our faith can be tested by things or people around us. Jesus appeared to the disciples giving them peace and showing His wounds, but Thomas was not there and he doubted what they were telling him. Imagine coming home and your family tells you, “We just won a million dollars”. What would you say and do? Jesus appeared again and he invited Thomas to touch his wounds to help Thomas declare his faith in Jesus. Would you ask to see an email, a text, or even the winning ticket? Jesus blesses all of us who wouldn’t see yet we believe. Our journey of faith can grow through questions and honest seeking. We need to support each other in living out the Gospel by meeting fear and doubt with peace and mercy. Mercy does not stop at prayer or reflection, it should lead to choices like forgiveness, kindness and patience. Jesus meets us where we are, even in our doubts. Jesus responds to our struggles with patience and love as we should for those who are seeking to strengthen their faith. Our faith is a continuous journey that never ends and by learning and studying our faith we can help others understand. As you grow in your faith you will realize that it is normal to have questions about your faith, but you need to find the answers to those questions. Faith often grows through encounters, trust, and seeking not just through sight. Through the Resurrection of Jesus, we are given new life as children of God and we need to live as a family of faith. Today we receive a message about letting go of the past and embrace a future filled with forgiveness and love. We need to share the words of Jesus with everyone we meet. It is more than a greeting; it is a message of comfort and reassurance that calms fears and reminds us that Jesus is with us. “Peace be with you.” (PC)
