The Second Sunday of Advent leads us to something new. John the Baptist tells the people to repent, to turn around, to get ready because someone greater than he is coming. This greater person will bring the Holy Spirit and fire. We are reminded that real faith shows not so much in our words but in our actions and that we must bear good fruit. We hear about a branch growing from Jesse's stump and this is a sign of hope that shows us God is doing something fresh. Scripture should give us hope because God is faithful in what He promises us and that all people are part of His plan.

We are called to live in peace and harmony with one another. The old ways are ending, and a peaceful king will come and once again justice and harmony will grow. We need to get ready in the right way because it is not just about waiting but turning back to God with open hearts, open hands and open minds. We need to hope for God's kingdom and trust in His promises. Advent encourages us to change our hearts and live better lives, not alone but with those that come into our lives. We are challenged during Advent to examine our actions and live faithfully as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ.

It is easy to look holy without really changing. There are people who think their family or religion makes them better than others, but we need to live in a way that shows real change. God looks at the heart and not just actions or words. Advent is not about looking good but instead trying to get ready inside and we do this simply by being honest, humble and letting God work in us. We all need God's help to grow and that is what Advent is about. We need to clear some space in our lives so Jesus can come close to us and within us.

Like a lot of Catholics, I had been away from practicing my Catholic Faith for a few years. While living in Vegas I felt God calling me to return to Him and so I did. Very few people knew that I was once again embracing my Catholic Faith, and I didn't think that I had changed my daily habits in anyway. I was still the same old me, doing the same daily things. It wasn't until a coworker came to me and said that she wanted to come to church with me. I knew she sometimes attended a different religious church, so I asked her why she wanted to come to Mass with me and her answer was "Because there is a peace and calm about you that I want too!"

That day I learned that my actions are more powerful than my words. I will never know how many other lives I have made a difference in, because of my actions and because I took the time to just listen to them and share my own story with them. So, this Advent Season make it a time for prayer, reflection, and acts of love to those around you because you never know when God will place someone in your path that needs your act of love. Justicia y Paz para Todos

El Segundo Domingo de Adviento nos lleva a algo nuevo. Juan el Bautista le dice al pueblo que se arrepienta, que cambie de actitud y se prepare porque alguien superior a él viene. Esta persona superior traerá el Espíritu Santo y el fuego. Recordamos que la verdadera fe se manifiesta no tanto en nuestras palabras, sino en nuestras acciones, y que debemos dar buen fruto. Oímos hablar de una rama que brota del tronco de Jesé, y esto es una señal de esperanza que nos muestra que Dios está haciendo algo nuevo. Las Escrituras deberían darnos esperanza porque Dios es fiel en lo que nos promete y que todas las personas son parte de su plan.

Estamos llamados a vivir en paz y armonía unos con otros. Las viejas costumbres están llegando a su fin, y un rey pacífico vendrá y de nuevo crecerán la justicia y la armonía. Necesitamos prepararnos como es debido, porque no se trata solo de esperar, sino de volver a Dios con el corazón, las manos y la mente abiertos. Necesitamos tener esperanza en el reino de Dios y confiar en sus promesas. El Adviento nos anima a cambiar nuestro corazón y a vivir una vida mejor, no solos, sino con quienes entran en nuestras vidas. Durante el Adviento, se nos reta a examinar nuestras acciones y vivir con fidelidad mientras preparamos nuestros corazones para la venida de Cristo.

Es fácil parecer santo sin cambiar realmente. Hay personas que creen que su familia o religión las hace mejores que otras, pero necesitamos vivir de una manera que muestre un cambio real. Dios mira el corazón, no solo las acciones o las palabras. El Adviento no se trata de verse bien, sino de prepararnos por dentro, y lo logramos simplemente siendo honestos, humildes y dejando que Dios obre en nosotros. Todos necesitamos la ayuda de Dios para crecer, y de eso se trata el Adviento. Necesitamos hacer espacio en nuestras vidas para que Jesús pueda acercarse a nosotros y estar en nosotros.

Como muchos católicos, había estado alejado de la práctica de mi fe católica durante algunos años. Mientras vivía en Las Vegas, sentí que Dios me llamaba a volver a Él, y así lo hice. Muy poca gente sabía que estaba abrazando de nuevo mi fe católica, y no creía haber cambiado mis hábitos diarios en absoluto. Seguía siendo el mismo de siempre, haciendo las mismas cosas a diario. No fue hasta que una compañera de trabajo se me acercó y me dijo que quería acompañarme a la iglesia. Sabía que a veces asistía a una iglesia diferente, así que le pregunté por qué quería acompañarme a misa y me respondió: "¡Porque hay una paz y una tranquilidad en ti que yo también quiero!".

Ese día aprendí que mis acciones son más poderosas que mis palabras. Nunca sabré en cuántas vidas he influido, gracias a mis acciones y a que me tomé el tiempo de escucharlas y compartir mi propia historia. Así que, este Adviento sea un tiempo para orar, reflexionar y mostrar amor a quienes te rodean, porque nunca se sabe cuándo Dios pondrá en tu camino a alguien que necesite tu amor. ";FELIZ ADVIENTO!"
