Dear St. Catherine Laboure Family,

The beauty of Christmas is not that it's limited to only one day, the sentiment of these holy days unfolds for us deeper hope, deeper peace, deeper joy, and the most deepest love. These pillars given to us at Advent are never lost but continue with us as we deepen our love of God. It is the season after all that we are called to reflect more profoundly on the essence and mystery of our faith, and decide whole-heartedly to focus on things that really matter.

Jesus in his incarnation now has become the remedy for our souls, to turn more deeply toward the virtuous life, born out of our families and to a greater extent the Church. How can it be that our family can be a source for us to grow in holiness, yet it is within the family that many people suffer the effects of drugs, incarcerations, alcohol abuse, marital strife, and financial woes?

Family members drift away from the faith and become lapsed. One of the most significant things mothers confess to the priest is that their adult children have left their Catholic faith behind. There is a great sadness because of this, and a longing from mothers that their children will one day pierce the darkness of their souls with the light of God.

Some of the saddest aspects of Catholic family life, is that the faith has been forgotten. Members of families fall ill, and die, often causing fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, and children great sadness and grief. Many family members are in purgatory, because faith is left behind.

It's our constant work as family and as Church, to foster our Catholic faith at home, and in our parish. We must assist family members in such a way that they will be open to deeper conversion. When members die incomplete, we then dedicate the rest of our lives to prayer, always offering Masses, and praying for the repose of their souls.

Let us pray that as we move through these holy days, the Holy Family will be the light to our darkness, holding us to the higher standard of God's design, that is Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the divine model. Mary so meek and humbled full of grace, with Jesus her divine son. Joseph is so stout and strong standing with staff over his beloved from which God ordained, his cloak a shroud umbrellaed for their protection.

The family is the place we should find shelter, be upheld, and loved. The family is the nucleolus that is brought together by the golden thread of refuge, faith, love, peace, and security. The family is to be guarded as a "safe haven", to affirm these gifts when they are challenged, to secure the souls of every person, so that nothing shakes them from the grace of God, so that each of our members may enjoy eternity.

The Church on a larger scale is also part of this nucleolus , because Jesus came into the world to secure the fertile garden of the family, so that seeds sowed may produce good fruit. We honor the Holy Family for this reason, to better understand God's greater invitation to remain close, and to be lead under the umbrella of His protection.

La Belleza de la Navidad

Estimada familia de Santa Catalina Laboure:

La belleza de la Navidad no reside en que se limite a un solo día; el sentimiento de estos días santos nos revela una esperanza más profunda, una paz más profunda, una alegría más profunda y el amor más profundo. Estos pilares que se nos dan en Adviento nunca se pierden, sino que nos acompañan a medida que profundizamos nuestro amor a Dios.

Es la época, después de todo, en la que estamos llamados a reflexionar mas profundamente sobre la esencia y el misterio de nuestra fe, y a decidir de todo corazón centrarnos en las cosas que realmente importan.

Jesús, en su encarnación, se ha convertido en el remedio para nuestras almas, para que nos volvamos más profundamente hacia la vida virtuosa, nacida en el seno de nuestras familias y, en mayor medida, en la Iglesia.

¿Como es posible que nuestra familia sea una fuente para crecer en santidad, y sin embargo, dentro de la familia muchas personas sufren los efectos de las drogas, el encarcelamiento, el abuso del alcohol, los conflictos matrimoniales y los problemas financieros? Los miembros de la familia se alejan de la fe y se vuelven indiferentes. Una de las cosas más significativas que las madres confiesan al sacerdote es que sus hijos adultos han abandonado la fe católica.

Hay una gran tristeza por esto, y un anhelo de las madres de que sus hijos algun dia iluminen la oscuridad de sus almas con la luz de Dios. Uno de los aspectos mas tristes de la vida familiar catolica es que la fe ha sido olvidada. Los miembros de las familias enferman y mueren, causando a menudo a padres, madres, hermanas, hermanos e hijos una gran tristeza y dolor. Muchos miembros de la familia estan en el purgatorio, porque han abandonado la fe.

Es nuestra labor constante, como familia y como Iglesia, fomentar nuestra fe católica en el hogar y en nuestra parroquia. Debemos ayudar a los miembros de la familia de tal manera que esten abiertos a una conversión más profunda.

Cuando los miembros mueren sin haber completado su camino espiritual, dedicamos el resto de nuestras vidas a la oracion, ofreciendo siempre Misas y rezando por el descanso de sus almas. Oremos para que, a medida que transcurren estos días santos, la Sagrada Familia sea la luz en nuestra oscuridad, guiándonos hacia el alto estándar del designio de Dios, que es Jesús, María y José como modelo divino.

María, tan mansa y humilde, llena de gracia, con Jesus, su divino hijo. José, robusto y fuerte, se yergue con su baculo junto a su amada, a quien Dios le ha encomendado, su manto extendido como un dosel protector.

La familia es el lugar donde debemos encontrar refugio, apoyo y amor. La familia es el núcleo que se une por el hilo dorado del amparo, la fe, el amor, la paz y la seguridad.

La familia debe ser protegida como un «refugio seguro», para reafirmar estos dones cuando son puestos a prueba, para salvaguardar las almas de cada persona, para que nada las aleje de la gracia de Dios, para que cada uno de sus miembros pueda disfrutar de la eternidad.

La Iglesia, en un sentido más amplio, también forma parte de este núcleo, porque Jesús vino al mundo para proteger el fertil jardin de la familia, para que las semillas sembradas produzcan buenos frutos. Por esta razon, honramos a la Sagrada Familia, para comprender mejor la invitacion de Dios a permanecer cerca de El y a estar bajo el amparo de su proteccion.
